The images in this portfolio were created over the past few decades in varying media: oil on canvas, sketches and egg tempera on gessoed panels amongst others.

Working on the Face of Christ has an internal power I associate with deep connection to the very core of the cosmos and yet the after effects seem to instil a blissful ordinariness into my daily life.

A beautiful paradox.

The beauty of iconography is the egg tempera painting is built up in layers from an intitial chaotic layer called the Foundation to ever more refined layers until you finish with the life giving stokes - small highlights added where there is most light. The light from an icon is from within, not reflected light.

The artist found a burnt wooden board on a beach on Holy Island and scratched on this image with a seashell. She left it in the meditation hut on beach to be found by others.
