539 Faces of Christ is not simply about images of Christ and art. The face of Christ can manifest in so many ways, you see, because His face is not a physical face. It is a construct of divine love. Just like His hands in my vision from a previous blog, Draw Me!. So you could look at anything created and looking closely with an open heart you may see this love, this image of Christ in all creation.
Today we had snow, not a great deal, but enough to cover the ground and make the world look white and pure and beautiful and magical. Getting up as the Sun was rising and the clouds in the sky still softly red, emanating a warming light over the wintry scene outside, was enough of a call to get the dogs and go walk.
No one else was up yet. It's a Sunday and in Wales people take their time at the weekend. My habit is to rise very early so the pathway along the mountain was pristine, untrod and tree branches bowed with the slight weight of snow dusted on their upper surfaces. The sky was a potpourri of orange-red-pink clouds softly nudging areas of clear blue, picturesque in itself. But the greatest beauty for me on a snowy day is the dampening effect snowfall has on sound. It hushes the world, encourages a feeling of peace within and makes one feel a childlike joy to be crunching along the white, dusty ways.
The snowflake itself is a thing of mathematical innovation and unique design per flake. It is gentle and softening as Christ is gentle and kind. Seeing it, walking in it and contemplating it today reminded me of the following Gospel passage:
"Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden light." Matthew 11 v28-30 NKJV
Working with Christ, studying the face of Christ, leads to a way of seeing and being so that all things created can become a reminder of His great love for us. Such a way of being creates a deepening sense of inner peace and calm.
Thank you, God for snow.
